If you have never done yoga before, these frequently asked questions may assist you:
What should I wear? Light weight, loose, comfortable fitting clothing is the best. The practice of yoga is done barefoot.
What do I bring? Bring a yoga mat, towel and water. If you do not have a yoga mat, you are welcome to borrow one of our community yoga mats for your first class. We do sell yoga mats for your convenience.
How do I prepare for class? Avoid large meals at least two hours before practicing yoga. You may have some fresh fruit, nuts, juice or foods that are easily digested before you practice.
Do I need to register for beginner classes? No, all of our classes are community classes with no registration. If you have never done yoga, try our Gentle Yoga classes to start.
Do I need to arrive early? Yes, before taking your first class, you will need to arrive about 15 minutes prior to class to complete paperwork. Following your first class, it is always a good idea to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to class so that you can begin to settle down and warm up.
What style of yoga can I expect? Hatha Yoga is the style of yoga that is used at Red Sun Yoga. The word hatha is the union between ha (sun) and tha (moon), a metaphor for bringing the body and mind together. You will learn how to combine the breath with movement.
What can I expect in my yoga class? You will begin by either sitting or lying on your yoga mat. The instructor will begin by centering the class with the focus on the breath (pranayama), next you will do gentle warm ups, followed by the postures of yoga (asanas), progressive muscle relaxation, deep relaxation and a silent meditation to conclude the class.
What should I do when I arrive at the studio? You will be asked to sign in and place your shoes and personal belongings in the cubbies that we have provided in the reception area. You will meet your instructor and they will assist you with any questions.
What are the class fees? Our drop in rate is $15 per class. You are more than welcome to a discounted rate by purchasing a class pass. We provide a 5-class pass for $55 or a 10-class pass for $100. This will reduce your class to a rate of $11 or $10 per class. We also offer an annual unlimited yoga pass (paid monthly) for $100./month as a credit card deduction.
How do I pay for my class? We accept cash, checks and credit cards (Visa, Master Card & Discover) at the studio. You are welcome to go on line to www.RedSunYoga.com if you choose to use a credit card through our on line system.
How often should I practice? We recommend that you come at least once a week to practice with a teacher, followed by two to three times a week as your practice continues to grow.
What are the most important things for a beginner to remember during and after class? Yoga is non-competitive and non-judgmental. Remember to relax and breathe. Honor your body by only going to your edge and not overdoing it. Competence and exploration soon come. Drink plenty of water following your class.
